Ho Chi Minh City Welcomes Nguyễn Đổng Chi Book Street

Ho Chi Minh City is set to gain a new cultural space dedicated to reading – the Nguyễn Đổng Chi Book Street. This exciting new addition will be located in District 7 and will stretch for 250 meters. The project is expected to become a vibrant cultural destination for book lovers and the local community.

The book street is named in honor of the esteemed scholar Nguyễn Đổng Chi (1915–1984), a prominent figure whose contributions spanned over 50 years of research and writing. His impact is felt in various fields, including creative writing, literary research, history, Chinese-Nom language, and especially folklore.

Nguyễn Đổng Chi was a leading scholar in the study of Vietnamese fairy tales. His insightful analyses shed light on the unique characteristics of Vietnamese fairy tales in relation to the world's collection of folklore.

In 1984, he was conferred the academic title of Professor. After his passing, he was posthumously awarded the Second Class Independence Order and the Hồ Chí Minh Prize (1996) – prestigious awards recognizing outstanding contributions to research and cultural creation.

One of his most notable works is "Kho tàng truyện cổ tích Việt Nam" (Treasury of Vietnamese Fairy Tales), a vast and enduring collection. Tomorrow morning, Đông A will present a limited edition of this treasured work. We invite those interested to follow.
