Lisbon and Sintra: A Portuguese Adventure

Lisbon is absolutely gorgeous, you guys! Everyone has different tastes, but personally, I fell head over heels for Lisbon. It's not a huge city, but it has everything you could want.

What I Loved About Lisbon

👍 The Good Stuff:

  • Friendly Locals: The people are incredibly lovely. Everyone I met was so welcoming and spoke English well, making it easy to chat and learn about the local culture.
  • Delicious Food: The food scene is fantastic, and the Vietnamese food is amazing too! If you want to know where I ate, let me know in the comments! The bánh xèo was just like back home.
  • Affordable Prices: Prices are very reasonable, especially compared to northern areas. Even compared to a place like Malaga, Lisbon offers some great deals.
  • Convenient Public Transport: Getting around is super easy with the public transport. You can buy cards from machines, with options to top up, or get passes for 24 or 48 hours.
  • Lots to See: There are tons of places to visit. A quick Google search will give you loads of ideas, but here are a few places that really stood out and you shouldn't miss: Óceanario de Lisbon, Timeout Market, Cabo da Roca, Arco da Rua Augusta, and the vintage trams.

Things to Keep in Mind

🫣 Important Tips:

  1. Footwear: Ladies, ditch the high heels! I learned this the hard way on my first day. Even with some slight platform shoes, my feet were killing me. I didn't realize Lisbon's hilly terrain meant a lot of walking up and down. Comfortable shoes are essential for a pleasant experience. Take my advice, please!
  2. Layers: It might be warmer later, but during this time, it's a good idea to bring a scarf or jacket. Even though it's sunny, the sea breeze can be chilly.
  3. Time: Plan to spend at least 3 days, or even longer, exploring Lisbon. There's so much to see! Also, the city attracts many tourists, so plan your itinerary to avoid long waits and potentially missing out on destinations.
  4. Flea Market: If you're there on Tuesdays and Saturdays, check out the massive "Da Ladra" flea market. You'll find all sorts of things there.

Sintra: A Day Trip or More?

Sintra, a charming town just about 40 km from Lisbon, is a must-visit if your schedule allows. It has five castles and stunning natural scenery. You can also visit Cabo Da Roca, the westernmost point of continental Europe. You can see Sintra in a day, but to make it a more relaxed experience, a two-day, one-night stay would be best! Plenty to see and do without getting bored.
