Grab Car Adventures in Singapore: A Personal Journey
My recent trip to Singapore offered some interesting experiences using Grab car services. Here's a peek at what I learned.
Cancellations and Costs
Canceling a Grab car ride comes with a $4 charge. It's something to keep in mind before you decide to cancel.
Navigating with Children
If you're traveling with children, booking a Kid Friendly option is crucial. Requesting a regular car may lead to the driver refusing the ride and requesting a cancellation, which will cost you $4. Thankfully, some drivers are accommodating.
During my five-day Singapore trip with a group of five (four adults and one child), we booked approximately 10 Grab car rides. In two instances, drivers asked us to cancel. Once, a driver requested additional payment. The remaining seven rides went smoothly.
I only learned about the Kid Friendly rule on my last day, thanks to a kind driver who took the time to explain the details. He mentioned that the Kid Friendly option costs roughly $5 more than the standard option, as Grab provides insurance for rides with young passengers.
Driver Experiences
It seems the drivers' attitudes can be quite varied. Out of 10 Grab car trips, I found that about half the drivers seemed less than thrilled to be driving.
Waiting Time Fees
Remember that if your driver has to wait for you, there's a $3 charge for the delay.
