A&R Urban Hotel: A Staycation Experience
Upon returning from Kuantan, I made a stop at a hotel near Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur. The hotel's name, A&R Urban Hotel, is a nod to its owners, Aaron and Rachel. I arrived at 5 pm and proceeded to the check-in counter. This hotel occupies a row of shop houses and has a cozy feel. The check-in process was swift, and there was a RM100 deposit required.
I had booked an Urban Suite through Trip.com. This room type cost RM224.40, inclusive of taxes, but excluded breakfast. The two-story suite offered 432 square feet of space. Though the hotel has an elevator, my room was conveniently located on the ground floor, just behind the lobby.
Inside the Suite
Entering the suite, you step into the living area on the lower level. A long sofa sits to the left, and a 32-inch TV is mounted on the wall beside it. In the center is a moderate-sized round table. Opposite the entrance, a work desk, equipped with a chair, provides a space for work or leisure. The desk also features amenities for making beverages. At the desk's end, you'll find a mini-fridge and a safe. Above the fridge, there's a hanging bar and some clothes hangers.
To the left of the desk is a sizable bathroom, partially obscured by a tinted mirror. It includes a sink, toilet, bathtub, and shower. The shower is situated inside the bathtub and offers a single showerhead. The bathtub isn't particularly large. Adjacent to the toilet is a bidet spray. The hotel provides basic toiletries, including toothbrushes. I was pleasantly surprised to find premium brand shower gel and shampoo.
The staircase to the upper level is located to the right of the entrance. The upper level features just a king-sized bed, with no other furniture. There is also a bathroom upstairs, which only houses a sink and a toilet. The space is quite compact, accommodating only the bed, but it's well-designed.
Amenities and Surroundings
Regarding connectivity, the Wi-Fi speed in the room reached 89 Mbps. For mobile data, CelcomDigi clocked 276 Mbps, while Tune Talk hit 159 Mbps. The hotel features a Smart TV, but it doesn't offer free channels. The water pressure in the bathroom was excellent, though I wasn't a fan of the showerhead's design and placement within the tub.
I found the hotel to be charming and clean, a suitable choice for those seeking accommodation near Selayang and Batu Caves. Because it's located in a row of shop houses, there are many convenience stores, restaurants, and eateries nearby. For those seeking a more budget-friendly experience, standard rooms are available for under RM100. For those using public transport, the hotel is approximately 4.8 km from the Kampung Batu MRT Station (Putrajaya Line).
