Budapest in the Summer Heat: A Hungarian Adventure
Even as Europe starts to cool down 🍂, Budapest feels like the height of summer 🔥. As my group and I climbed up to Fisherman's Bastion, we took in the sights and dreamed of holding a cold beer to complete the perfect scene.
Fisherman's Bastion: A View to Remember
Despite the name, which might suggest a fish market 🐟, Fisherman's Bastion was actually where the old fishermen guarded the city walls. Now, it's the most beautiful "photo-op balcony" in Budapest, offering stunning views of the Danube River and the magnificent Hungarian Parliament Building.
Matthias Church and Royal History
Right next door is Matthias Church, where Hungarian royalty, including the famous Empress Sisi, were crowned. Locals affectionately call it the "bride and groom church," because every king wanted to have their wedding ceremony here 😄.
The Hungarian Parliament: A Monumental Structure
The Hungarian Parliament is simply incredible, built between 1885 and 1902. It stretches an impressive 268 meters and has nearly 700 rooms. Inside, you can find the crown of Saint Stephen, a national treasure. The locals jokingly say that the building is so large so the members of parliament can find ample space to... doze off! 🤭
A Whirlwind Tour in the Sun
Amidst the Budapest heat, visitors transformed into princesses and princes, taking photos for their social media. As for me, I became the... alarm clock! I reminded everyone to take their pictures quickly so we could catch our ride 🚌🤣 and get to our dinner reservation. We were eager to enjoy traditional fish soup and the rich, flavorful goose liver at a Hungarian restaurant.
