Extending Your Iran Visa: A Quick Guide
Planning to stay in Iran longer than 15 days? You can extend your visa right there, without needing to apply beforehand at the Iranian embassy in Vietnam. I recently extended my visa in Yazd, and the process was surprisingly quick and easy. The officers were incredibly friendly and helpful.
I didn't realize it was Thursday, the start of the weekend in Iran. I arrived thinking I could get it done, but the guard said to come back on Saturday because the office was closed. I was disappointed, already booking a Snapp to return to my hostel. But then, a magical door opened, and the guard and another officer beckoned me in. They helped me through the extension process!
The Extension Process
Here's how it went:
- Take a Snapp to the Iranian Visa Extension Office (New).
- Tell them you want to extend your visa, and they will guide you. It seemed like a customs department, as the officers wore uniforms similar to the customs officers I encountered at the Armenia-Iran border.
- Go outside, turn left, and walk about 100 meters to a photocopy shop. They will photocopy your passport, fill out the necessary information, and print the visa extension form for you. The cost was 25,000 toman (around 6,000 VND).
- Return to the office, follow the instructions, and pay 50,000 toman (approximately 13,000 VND).
- Wait for the stamps, and you're done! The extension stamp is placed on the passport copy, not the original passport. The whole process cost less than a dollar.
You can also extend your visa in Shiraz or Tehran, but I've heard it takes longer there. I only heard this from some Chinese friends, as I didn't experience it myself. The Chinese friends I met in Tabriz recommended Yazd for its efficiency. The Yazd extension was indeed quick.
Have a wonderful trip to Iran. Iran is amazing! ❤️
