4 Hours in Shaoxing
Shaoxing, a renowned ancient city nestled in the Yangtze River Delta of Zhejiang province, boasts a history spanning over 2,500 years. It's often called the "hometown of celebrities."
Getting Around
- Hangzhou to Shaoxing: Take Line 1 (red line) and alight at Lu Xun Native Place station, Exit A2. A short walk will lead you to the attractions.
- Calligraphy Saint's Hometown: Take bus 68, from LuXun GuLi stop to SongMei Qiao. The entrance is right there.
Exploring Shaoxing
Lu Xun Native Place (鲁迅故里)
This is the birthplace of Lu Xun, a place that inspired many of his works. The historical site is remarkably well-preserved, featuring ancient houses, wells, courtyards, and bridges. Some places require pre-registration for entry, such as the Lu Xun Memorial Hall. You can register via WeChat and scan the code upon arrival. A pleasant surprise is the affordability of souvenirs here.

Calligraphy Saint's Hometown (书圣故里)
This area was the residence of Wang Xizhi, one of China's most outstanding calligraphers from ancient times. Here are some excellent photo spots:
- The bridge with calligraphy walls: 蕺坊桥. Capture photos along the river.
- The Grandfather's Bookstore: 老爷爷书店
