The Biggest Regret of My European Adventure: Not Staying Longer in Lake Como! 🥹🍋⛲️⛵️🇮🇹
Waking up in Milan, I craved an escape from the bustling city. I decided to hop on a train to Varenna, a charming village on Lake Como. 😎
And from that moment, I was completely captivated! 🥰 Every corner of Varenna felt like stepping into a fairy tale. The romantic Passeggiata degli Innamorati promenade, the vibrant flower beds lining the streets, the picturesque Villa Monastero, and the cheerful birdsong echoing through the alleys.
The shimmering lake, the pastel-colored houses clinging to the hillsides—it all created a deeply relaxing vibe. 🌼
Getting to Varenna is a Breeze!
With direct flights from Vietnam to Milan via Vietnam Airlines ✈️ starting July 1st, it's incredibly convenient and comfortable! From Milano Centrale, it's just a quick train ride (1 hour 30 minutes, 7.5 EUR one way) to this "hidden gem." Varenna is a small village with a population of around 800 people, located just 80 km from Milan. It's home to the ancient San Giorgio church and a ferry terminal connecting to other delightful towns like Bellagio and Como.
Things to Do & See:
- Villa Monastero: Entrance fees range from 10-13€. You can purchase tickets on the spot.
- Villa Cipressi: Though I missed out on visiting due to a private event, the wisteria-covered gate overlooking the lake is stunning. A reason to return someday!
Important Tips for Getting Around:
⛴️ A key tip if you're planning to visit other towns by boat 👉🏻 buy your tickets as soon as you arrive. Tickets aren't sold online, and you'll need to queue. The lines can get long, so try to purchase your tickets early in the morning. Once you have your ticket, you can use it anytime during the day!
🍕 Oh my goodness, the food was delicious! I highly recommend spending an afternoon at a lakeside restaurant, watching the sunset, and savoring pasta and pizza.
Photo Tips for Capturing the Magic:
📸 Sisters, here's a tip! This time, I traveled to Lake Como solo, relying mainly on selfies and asking people to take photos. 🙈 So, there are a lot of shots with my back to the camera :))) Choose bright colors, creams, beiges, or pastels to match the scenery! Also, pack a hat and scarf because the Italian summer is scorching.
I absolutely fell in love with Varenna, so I put my heart into writing this little review. I hope it helps those dreaming of an endless summer in Italy 😘 🇮🇹
