Tokyo Tower: Your Ultimate Photo Spot Guide

Built in 1958, the Tokyo Tower, towering at 333 meters, draws inspiration from the Eiffel Tower. During the summer months of July to September, it glows in a cool silver hue, while other times of the year it's bathed in a warm orange light. This iconic landmark, illuminated from sunset until midnight, is one of Tokyo's most dazzling sights.

This historic structure, predating the completion of the Skytree in 2012, now serves primarily as a broadcasting antenna. It's also a beloved destination for tourists. Plan to spend around 5 to 6 hours here, enjoying the observation decks, dining, and maybe even witnessing the tower's evening illumination. The base of the tower offers a variety of shops and food stalls. We savored colorful ice cream and delicious ramen, a surprisingly affordable treat in Japan.

Climbing the Tower

Access to the 150-meter observation deck costs 1500 yen. For the top level, at 250 meters, the entrance fee is 3500 yen (approximately 726 NTD). Enjoy the great views and a complimentary small drink. The elevator ride itself is a fun experience with beautiful lighting, and even the restrooms are photo-worthy!

We purchased a Tokyo Tower magnet. It cost 630 yen after a 10% discount with a JCB credit card. Always ask if there are any credit card deals when you are paying. We also bought a commemorative photo taken by a professional photographer before reaching the top. It was 2000 yen and we are very happy with our souvenir and memories.

The Hottest Photo Location

The Tokyo Tower underground parking lot in Shiba Park is currently the most popular photography spot. Search for "東京タワー地下駐車場" on Google Maps. Visitors eagerly line up to capture the perfect shot here. Taking pictures from the underground staircase exit makes the Tokyo Tower appear even taller and more impressive. It's easy to see why this spot is so popular.

We waited in line for a full 30 minutes for this view! 👍

I explored at least 5 different locations to photograph Tokyo Tower. I even took a final picture of the lit-up tower as we sadly left.
