Hallstatt Stay: A Budget-Friendly Resort Recommendation
Planning a trip to Hallstatt and looking for an overnight stay? I highly recommend this affordable "resort": Dormio Resort Obetraun.
Location, Location, Location
It's perfectly situated on the opposite side of the lake from the historic village center. Plus, it's conveniently close to the ferry terminal for Vienna!
Room Details
We stayed in a room that cost £100 per night for two people (August 2024).
More Than Just a Room
It's called a resort for a reason! The grounds are incredibly spacious and relaxing, offering a range of amenities. You can opt for a private wooden chalet, or a more budget-friendly option like a hotel "room" within a larger wooden building. Breakfast, swimming pools, and more are included!
Amazing Views and Peaceful Atmosphere
The resort is on the other side of the lake, opposite the village center. It's a very tranquil location, perfect for watching the sunset with stunning views of the mountains and lake – reminiscent of Ninh Binh in our country! It's an amazing experience.
Why This Resort?
Other resorts and hotels around Hallstatt are often very expensive, sometimes three, four, or even five times the price. Most people visit Hallstatt as a day trip. However, because I wanted to explore the salt mines (highly recommended!), and enjoy the village after the crowds had left, I decided to stay overnight. I was so lucky to find this place!
Important Transportation Tips
Be mindful of public transport schedules around the lake. The last bus, for instance, usually runs at 7 pm, and the ferry at around 6 pm. Plan your travel from the main village back to the resort accordingly. There are two restaurants on the resort grounds so you don't have to worry about going hungry!

My Thoughts on Hallstatt
Some people say Hallstatt is overrated, but I disagree. While its natural beauty (the lake and mountains) can be found elsewhere, the historical significance and the salt mines make this village truly special and memorable. It's definitely worth visiting!
