Zillertal, Tirol: A Fairytale in Austria
Imagine Switzerland, but less crowded and more affordable. That's the magic of Zillertal, Tirol, Austria! 🥰 During a recent 7-day road trip from Germany, we explored the breathtaking landscapes, experiencing the beauty of Olpererhütte and Lünersee. The scenery is simply stunning, with cinematic driving routes, picturesque chalets that look like they've stepped out of a painting, delicious food (you absolutely must try Kaiserschmarrn!), and budget-friendly prices.
This route is best explored as a road trip to soak in the scenic drives and make spontaneous stops along the way. However, if you prefer public transport, you can travel from Munich. Innsbruck is also a good starting point, and there is a bus service to reach the hike starting point for Olpererhütte.
Olpererhütte Adventure
We stayed at a hotel in Schwendau and drove for about 45 minutes to Schlegeis. Then, we hiked for 2 hours to Olpererhütte and its legendary suspension bridge. We took some photos, enjoyed lunch at the lodge at an altitude of 2389m, and descended in about 1 hour. This hike is generally easy, even for beginners. However, it's essential to wear appropriate footwear for safety. You can pack your nice clothes in your backpack and change at the bridge for photos! 😂😂😂
Lünersee Exploration
We stayed in a charming chalet in Büserberg, a 30-minute drive to the parking area for Lünersee. In the afternoon, you can take the cable car up and hike around the lake (5km, about 2 hours, including photo stops 😆). You can hike down in about 1 hour if you wish (otherwise, take the cable car down).
