Takayama: A Step Back in Time
Our adventure kicked off in Takayama, a picturesque city cradled by the Japanese Alps. The preserved Sanmachi Suji district was a true highlight, showcasing traditional wooden buildings, sake breweries, and charming shops. Wandering through the snow-dusted streets felt like stepping into the past. The atmosphere was ideal for photography, especially with the warm glow of lanterns at dusk. We explored the Hida Folk Village, an open-air museum where traditional houses stood blanketed in snow ❄️ a must-see for winter photography fans.

Shirakawa-go: A Snowy Wonderland
We also explored Shirakawa-go, the iconic UNESCO World Heritage village. The sight of the gassho-zukuri houses, covered in snow, was simply surreal. We explored the village and climbed to the Shiroyama Viewpoint, offering the best panoramic view of the whole village. The sunrise and sunset shots from this spot were extraordinary, and the peaceful vibe made it a most memorable stop of our trip. We advise staying until evening to see the houses illuminated – an unforgettable experience for photographers 📸

Gero Onsen: Relaxation Amidst Snow
Our journey continued to Gero Onsen, one of Japan's top hot spring towns. The combination of warm onsen baths and the snowy surroundings was incredibly relaxing. We photographed at the Gassho Village, a smaller version of Shirakawa-go, and enjoyed peaceful riverside views 😍😍😍 It was the ideal place to capture winter serenity while unwinding 🏔️ We highly recommend soaking in an outdoor onsen for a truly immersive experience.
